There is something so special about photographing the people closest to you, especially during such meaningful chapters of their lives. Recently, I had the honor of photographing one of my dearest friends, Nataliya, and her fiancé, Jake, for their engagement session at the beautiful Art Institute of Chicago.
With its historic architecture, grand stone steps, and timeless surroundings, the Art Institute of Chicago made the perfect backdrop for their engagement portraits. The setting brought an elegant and classic feel to their photographs while allowing their personalities and connection to remain at the heart of every image.
Nataliya is one of the most genuine and authentic people I know, and seeing her with someone who loves her so wholeheartedly is incredibly special. Every couple expresses love differently, but Nataliya and Jake have a rare kind of connection that is impossible to miss. It's in the little moments, the effortless laughter, and the way they naturally gravitate toward one another.
One of my favorite things about photographing them was watching the way Jake looks at Nataliya. There is a softness and certainty in his expression that I remember noticing the very first time I met him. It's the kind of love you always hope your closest friends will find, and being able to document it through my photography made this Chicago engagement session even more meaningful.
As a wedding and engagement photographer, I believe the most beautiful photographs come from capturing couples as they truly are. While the architecture and setting of the Art Institute of Chicago created a stunning backdrop, it was Nataliya and Jake's genuine connection that made these photographs feel so true.
